Pesticide Residue

Pesticides are synthetic compounds used for destroying pests which are harmful to cultivated plants and animals.

There are many groups of pesticides like organochlorine, organophosphorous, complex organic compounds (DDT, Aldrin, Chlordane, Dieldrin, BHC etc.) These are currently employed both in developed and developing countries for obtaining better and larger yields in agriculture.

The degradation of some of these pesticides by biological processes is very slow. Some of them find its way into rivers and oceans. They enter food chain and finally reaches man. Its concentration increases with trophic levels and cause great damage to the health of man.

LGIL has sophisticated instruments (GC & HPLC with UV & Fluorescence detector) for detection of these pesticide residues.
